Oh Hey There

My name is Tallen Gabriel. I am a writer, musician, and generally curious lad about town.

My work, from on-the-spot custom poetry to essays and articles to cathartic folk-rock shows at local venues, is primarily rooted in cultivating and fostering moments of unexpected human connection and understanding.

Currently:

  • I am a contributing writer, copywriter, and voiceover artist with Hatch (listen to my morning wakeup and evening wind down channels on the Restore 2 device), Ruca, and others.

  • I play cello, sing, and write songs with my band Captain Tallen & the Benevolent Entities. I also play and sing BGVs in Fleur Geurl.

  • I can be found at events and crafting custom poems on my 1960s ultraportable Hermes Rocket typewriter with Ars Poetica.

  • I have a bi-weekly-ish Substack.

  • I write YA fiction (inq: Alyssa Jennette of Stonesong) and am currently revising my eventual debut novel for a second round of submissions.

  • I write and occasionally perform not-on-the-spot poetry.

  • I work at Movement Gowanus (formerly The Cliffs at Gowanus) and rock climb very frequently.

  • I pay attention to astrology and the sky, go on plenty of adventures, and collaborate with friends and artistic compatriots when possible. I read a lot. I go down a fair amount of Wikipedia rabbit holes when I don’t know as much about a subject as I’d like to. I’m trying to get more into cooking.

As my friends at Hell Gate Bridge Alliance said in the kindest write up ever: “Tallen is a multi-talented, multi-faceted artist whose work is strongly imbued with warmth and affectionate intimacy. [They] are one of those magical humans with a seemingly endless capacity to embrace humanity in all its beauty and complexity.”

(I went by Tallie for many years, so you’ll likely find some of my digital trail under that nickname.)

Thanks for stopping by! Poke around to learn more about my specific skills and projects, and get in touch if you’d like to collaborate, commission a typewritten poem, have a story to share, or just want to say hey.
